#MarieMarvels

I have embarked on an adventure where I’m going to watch everything in the Marvel Cinematic Universe before Avengers: Infinity War comes out in May 2018. I’m pumped about it and I’ve already started. Here, you’ll be able to find my short summary review and rating of everything, along with when I watched. Hurray!

And, for those who are curious, I found the “ideal order” to watch things in from this website. Pretty nifty, right?

  1. Captain America: The First Avenger. I was on board for this movie from the very first ice scene (mostly because that reminded me of Transformers, another favorite of mine). I thought Elrond as the villain was excellent, I loved Cap with Agent Carter, and Chris Evans, man. Ugh, I love him. He was able to play the scrawny kid at the beginning and keep that same persona even when he had muscles later on. I thoroughly enjoyed this one. 4/5 stars (watched on 11/29/17).
  2. Marvel’s Agent Carter (S1). I loved Peggy Carter in Captain America so much. Also, Jarvis is a person! And Howard Stark! And Chad Michael Mudface is excellent in all his scenes – I hate it a little, but I love him as Agent Thompson. And sweet sweet Agent Sousa. Oh man, I’ve fallen in love with this Marvel universe and characters. This has brought me joy. 4.5/5 stars (watched 11/30/17 – 12/4/17).
  3. Marvel’s Agent Carter (S2). This picks up right where we left off, and the plot has thickened! Gosh, I love Agent Carter. She’s such a beautiful badass. Most of the characters returned from the first season, but there were two additions I’ve especially loved – Jason Wilkes the physicist, and Vinnie Van Lowe as the mobster. I will watch anything with Vinnie Van Lowe in it. ❤ 4/5 stars (watched 12/5/17 – 12/14/17).
  4. Iron Man (rewatch). I mean. It’s Iron Man! This was the first film made in this modern version of the MCU and the first one I saw (with an ex of mine, so also, nostalgia). Robert Downey Jr. is the best, and Tony’s interactions with all the people around him – but especially Pepper and Rhody – are my favorites. I’ll always watch RDJ when he’s playing the superhero version of himself. 4.5/5 stars (rewatched on 11/29/17).
  5. The Incredible Hulk. Decided not to watch – I want to stay pure to the Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner thing. That’s probably not really a thing, but I’m doing it anyway. -/5 stars (did not watch).
  6. Iron Man 2. I thought I had seen this, but I definitely hadn’t! The first appearance of Natasha Romanov, plus more Nick Fury and Agent Coulson, plus, FINALLY, a kiss between Tony and Pepper! And all the action and craziness was just delightful. Thoroughly enjoyed, although it wasn’t better than the first one, I don’t think. 4/5 stars (watched 12/1/17).
  7. Thor. So far, this has been the cheesiest of all the Marvel movies I’ve watched. I enjoy Natalie Portman, but the character she played here was… a bit much for me. I loved Chris Hemsworth and Kat Dennings, though. And Loki is probably one of my all-time fave villains. Overall, it was cheesy but okay. I should have expected nothing less from a Kenneth Branagh movie. 3/5 stars (watched 12/3/17).
  8. Marvel’s The Avengers (rewatch). Well hot damn, I forgot how kickass this movie is. So many characters, so many plots coming together, so much wonderful superhero-ness. I’d watch this again and again. This was the last thing I’d seen before (how that’s possible, I’m not sure), so everything going forward is uncharted territory. The adventure continues! 5/5 stars (rewatched 12/3/17).
  9. Iron Man 3. I’m always going to enjoy an Iron Man movie, but I struggled a little with the length of this one. But there were such cute domestic moments with Pepper that I loved, and the flip-flopping of people being good and bad kept me on my toes, and Tony’s PTSD from the Battle of New York was so real and relatable. The ending though… what does that mean for the future of Iron Man?? I guess I’ll have to keep watching to find out! 4/5 stars (watched 12/16/17).
  10. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S1, E1-7). I really thought I’d hate this because spin-off shows really aren’t my jam as a whole, but I enjoyed Agent Carter, so I went into this not knowing what to think. And guess what? I flipping love it. I love that the field agents are all brawn and cunning and the lab people are smarter than anyone else in the room and I also love Skye as the antihero. I’m glad there are a whole bunch of seasons of this for me to binge! 4/5 stars (watched 12/17/17 – 12/18/17).
  11. Thor: The Dark World. Well, let me tell you – this was so much better than the first Thor movie. More action, more snarky Loki, more of all the things I love about Marvel movies. Still a bit much Natalie Portman for me, but you win some and you lose some. ALSO. More Idris Elba please?! Overall, a good watch, AND the first mention of the Infinity Stones! 4/5 stars (watched 12/18/17).
  12. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S1, E8-15). I like how the show weaves in and out of the movies! This part of the season is off to an exciting start, although I don’t know how I feel about the Ward/May relationship. Aaaaand it appears that it might not matter anymore, but we’ll see. It was nice to see Lady Sif! And watching Skye almost die was the worst, ugh. This was so well-done and I’m so invested. 4.5/5 stars (watched 12/21/17 – 12/22/17).
  13. Captain America: The Winter Soldier. THIS MOVIE WAS SO GOOD!! Black Widow! Falcon! Nick Fury faking his death?! And Bucky Barnes, oh, my heart. I don’t know how to feel about the whole Hydra being inside SHIELD for a bazillion years, so I’m going to need to ponder that a bit. But this has been my favorite movie since The Avengers! 5/5 stars (watched 12/23/17).
  14. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S1, E16-22). A pretty explosive end to the first season! I was so shocked by some of the twists and turns, and the Hydra plot was incorporated perfectly. I’m so invested in this characters now! Season 2, I’m ready for you. (Please don’t kill Fitz off omg.) 4.5/5 stars (watched 12/29/17 – 1/1/18).
  15. Guardians of the Galaxy. You know, this movie was built up by people, so my expectations were really high. And I didn’t dislike it, per se, but I didn’t love it like everyone else seems to. Chris Pratt was great, Zoe Saldana was great, everyone was great. But space stuff isn’t my jam. Idk. I’ll still watch the second one, obvi, but it wasn’t my favorite of the bunch. 3.5/5 stars (watched 1/1/18).
  16. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S2, E1-19). Honestly, I’m starting to get sick of the whole Hydra thing, but Ward being untrustworthy and what not? I love it. And the new characters are wonderful. And the connection to both the Kree (GotG!) and the Inhumans (!) ties things in. AND THE AVENGERS ARE COMING!! Woot woot, I’m ready. So anyway, with the two SHIELDs and the weird place that Skye was brought… I thought this season went a little off the rails in the middle, but I’m back and I’m ready for what’s to come! 3/5 stars (watched 1/2/18 – 2/1/18).
  17. Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol. 2. Ho hum. Am I the only one who doesn’t love these movies? They’re not bad, per se. But… eh. The space stuff just doesn’t hold my interest, and really, my favorite parts are always when Groot is saying “I am Groot” and having conversations with the others, who know what he’s saying. That cracks me up. But the rest? Meh. There were more feels associated with this one, and I still think Chris Pratt and Zoe Saldana are great. But like I said… ho hum. 3/5 stars (watched 2/2/18).
  18. Marvel’s Daredevil (S1). This is so dark and so wonderful. And FULTON REED IS IN IT and I’ve never been happier to discover a Mighty Ducks character in another show in my life. So, okay, and that armor couldn’t have come a little sooner? Our guy needed a little protection, amirite? THIS WAS SO GOOD. 4.5/5 stars (watched 2/1/18 – 2/7/18).
  19. Avengers: Age of Ultron. This movie was whoa. I don’t know why I was so surprised, but there was no easing in, no reintroduction of motives or characters. It was good, don’t get me wrong, but I spent the first third of the movie staring at the screen looking all confused, trying to follow everything. I enjoyed that Ultron was sort of Stark’s creation, that was a twist that we probably should have all seen coming, and along the same vein as Howard Stark in Agent Carter. Best parts? VISION AND SCARLET WITCH. I’m excited to see them in future movies. Also, Black Widow and Hulk? Can we agree that’s sweet but weird? Yeah? Okay, cool. Overall, I enjoyed, but still felt lost, even having seen EVERYTHING. 3.5/5 stars (watched 2/7/18).
  20. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S2, E20-22). It’s super weird to go back to Agents of SHIELD after the darkness and grittiness of Daredevil. It’s very evident that AoS is on a primetime channel, where Daredevil has only ever been on Netflix. Idk. This ending, where the Inhumans are evil? I didn’t care for it. THAT ENDING THOUGH?? Hot damn! 3.5/5 stars (watched 2/8/18).
  21. Ant-Man. Erm. Hmm. I don’t really know what to make of this movie. I love Paul Rudd and figured he’d be the redeeming quality of this movie, and he was. But the rest was… strange. It didn’t seem to immediately fit in the MCU, but then at the end?! Eep! Also, hi Anthony Mackie, please always be on my TV? Thank you kindly. ❤ 3/5 stars (watched 2/10/18).
  22. Marvel’s Jessica Jones (S1). Okay, so this series has started a little slower than I thought it would after the rave reviews I’ve read and heard, I figured it got better as I went along. AND GOD DAMN, DID IT EVER! This was so good, and Jessica Jones is the perfect antihero, and I loved all the side characters SO MUCH. Also THANK THE LORD that Luke Cage gets his own show. LOVE HIM. 4.5/5 stars (watched 2/8/18 – 2/16/18).
  23. Marvel’s Agents of SHIELD (S3, E1-10). It took me quite a bit longer to get into this season than I expected – I don’t think I was prepared for Ward to be back and be the villain again. But then I settled in, and I started to enjoy seeing Constance Zimmer in a role that wasn’t in Unreal, and I got into it. By the time I hit episode 10, I was invested again! I’m pumped to see where this is going. 3.5/5 stars. (watched 2/16/18 – 6/4/18).
  24. Marvel’s Daredevil (S2). SO DARK. SO WONDERFUL. (watched 6/4/18 – ?)
