I’ve been doing a lot of thinking about what I want to do with this blog now that I’m halfway through the year and the world has completely changed. In my last post, I said I was going to continue my Year of Romance, but I just… can’t. I can’t do it. I feel drawn to authors of color, and I feel like I need to devote the rest of my year to really reading all of these books I’ve been wanting to read and just not making the time for. So anyway. That’s where I’m headed. I’m going to stick with the Start on Your Shelfathon challenge, because I also already have all of these books sitting on my shelves! I just need to shift my plan a little bit.
But let’s get to the freak-out, shall we? I was tagged by Liv over at CurlyHairBibliophile, and I’m super excited about this one. Let’s get to it!
Best Book You’ve Read So Far in 2020
This is a super tough one! I’ve read some pretty great books, but I think the best book I’ve read so far has been Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole. Which leads me to…

Best Sequel You’ve Read So Far in 2020
Prince on Paper by Alyssa Cole! (Review for this coming soon so you can see why I loved it so much!)
New Release You Haven’t Read Yet, but Want to
THERE ARE SO MANY!! But the two that come to mind are Mexican Gothic and Daring and the Duke.

Most Anticipated Release for the Second Half of 2020
I absolutely cannot narrow this down to a single book! So I picked three – Today, Tonight, Tomorrow, Wayward Witch, and Don’t Ask Me Where I’m From.

Biggest Disappointment
BY FAR this was Here and Then and Now by Mike Chen. I can’t even describe how disappointed I was in this book, but I try in this post.

Biggest Surprise
The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society! You can read this post if you’re interested in how much I loved this one.

Favorite New Author
ALYSSA COLE.
Newest Fictional Crush
Oh man, TAVISH. Definitely Tavish, from Duke by Default by Alyssa Cole. I have such a weakness for Scotland, and then THROW A GRUMP INTO IT?? I’m on board, take all my money, I’m here for it. You can read more about my crush here!

Newest Favorite Character
I think this one has to go to Robyn from Stripped by Zoey Castile. She’s kind of a mess, but in a super relatable way, and I love that she got a happy ending. Review coming soon!

Book that Made You Cry
I definitely cried while reading The Guernsey Literary and Potato Peel Pie Society. I’m usually a crier, but there hasn’t been a ton to cry about in this Year of Romance! Well, that year is changing, so I’m sure more tears are coming.
Book that Made You Happy
Honestly, the happiest I’ve been reading was when Likotsi (Once Ghosted, Twice Shy) and Reggie (Can’t Escape Love) got their happy endings in Alyssa Cole’s Reluctant Royals novellas. They’re so deserving!

Most Beautiful Book You Bought So Far This Year
I’m judging these books by their covers – Girl, Serpent, Thorn and Mexican Gothic??? SWOON. Oh, and don’t even get me STARTED on Untamed!

What Books Do You Need to Read by the End of the Year
I absolutely don’t have the space or energy to answer this here and now, but if you read the first paragraph of this post, you know that I’m scratching the official Year of Romance and moving on to reading exclusively diversely for the rest of the year and probably next year too. I have quite a backlog, so it’ll be easy. I’m hoping to hop back on and start posting reviews again soon, but I need to sit with my decision and the world for a little longer. But I’ll be back, don’t worry.
Who Do I Tag?
No one? Everyone? If you’re reading this, you’ve been tagged, so go ahead and answer these questions and we can freak out together. You’ve all been tagged!
Happy reading!
