Welcome to 2018’s first monthly writing recap! Each month I’m going to revisit my three writing resolutions that I talked about in this post to let y’all know how things have been going – I need to stay accountable! So, let’s dive into what I’ve been doing this January (I promise, I’ve been a little bit productive)!
Resolution #1: Make Progress on Finished Novels
Fight and Flight
This one is still out on sub, and while things are moving slowly (because publishing), I’m hopeful.
You Better Run
No progress made yet. Womp womp. This one is going to be my doozy, I think.
Secret Project
No news yet, but again, I’m hopeful.
Resolution #2: Finish My Bruja Book
Here’s where I finally have something to say! I’ve been writing again! Starting in mid-January, after I was done training for my marathon, I set out to write words each weekday morning. I’m in the middle of week two of this – so day 8 – and I’ve completely rewritten everything and the words are finally finally coming. I’m at just over 15k words now, and I actually mapped out my plan for the rest of this story, and THIS IS HAPPENING! I haven’t felt this invigorated about writing in a really long time, and I’m living for it. I missed it. I don’t have a deadline for myself to finish this manuscript as of right now, but I’m hoping it’s done and ready to go by summer. π
Resolution #3: Make Writing My Priority Again
I’ve done this, and it feels so great. I joined the unofficial 5 am Writer’s Club on Twitter, and tweeting out at others has kept me accountable. Now that I’m in week 2 of this, I’m not tweeting as much anymore and doing more actual writing, and that’s where I like to be. Writing is solitary for me, a way for me to connect with the ideas in my own brain, and I like it that way. But I know they’re all there and will motivate me if I need it.
All in all, January went pretty well on the writing front. Not only did I start writing regularly again on the Bruja project, but I hit all my blogging goals as well. It’s been a good month, a focused month. I always do better when I have clearly defined goals. π
How is everyone else’s writing going? Let me know in the comments!
Write on!
-A.
So glad you’re getting your writing motivation back! I have honestly been a little stuck lately. I’ve started a few stories which fizzled out. Yesterday I had a little motivational talk with my grandma (they really do know best) and I was FINALLY able to get some words onto a page again! Feels great π Happy writing!
