This is SO late (sorry!), but I’m so excited that I’m part of the Ready for Wild blog tour! I absolutely loved this book, and I’m pumped to write this review on it! I better not delay anymore – go buy this book! It’s so good!
Here we go!
Braden Montgomery is a grumpy game warden who is used to living alone in the woods with his dog. The last thing he wants? To play guide to Amber Regan, star of the hunting show Record Racks, while she scouts a location to film a big hunt in the southern Colorado wilderness. But he drew the short straw, so her guide he will be. He hates her at first, then realizes he’s into her… then he hates that he’s into her. What a stupid situation that he found himself in, right?
Well, Amber is feeling the same way.
Amber Regan has built her career on being a strong, independent woman who could hang with the guys. She hunts, she stars in her own television show, and she is endorsed by countless brands. But she’s also lonely, and when she meets Braden, she finds him annoying and rude. But there is something underneath that scowl, and she can feel it burning through his tough exterior. Braden is a bigger softy than he seems, but there’s a catch…
He hates hunting shows. And a hunting show is her livelihood.
3 Things I Loved
- Braden. I love grumpy heroes! I think it’s because I’m relatively grumpy myself. And Braden is the kind of grumpy that is like catnip to me – soft on the inside, using the grump to protect his gooey middle. LOVE IT. Loved him so much.
- Amber. Aside from her stereotypical tininess, I loved Amber’s spunk throughout the book. She kept Braden on his toes, which was fun to read. They’re so cute together.
- Teagan and Colin. Gosh, if there were ever a couple who deserved love, it’s these two. I don’t know why they don’t want to work to be together! I mean, I do know why – it’s explained in the book – but I wanted them to get their happily ever after SO BAD.
Dislikes/Problematic Content
Mmm. There wasn’t a lot of note other than the typical things – it was a very white, straight book. You know what I’d love? An F/F CR about hunting in the wilds of Colorado. Someone write that, please!

A reminder of the rating scale:
- Red = DNF, I hated everything
- Orange = Ugh, no thank you
- Yellow = I mean, I’ve read worse, but there were problems
- Green = This was good!
- Blue = Oh my gosh, I loved this book!
- Purple = This is the unicorn of books and I will be rereading it until the binding falls apart and EVERYONE should be reading it!
I really liked this one, but I’ll admit it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read or anything. I appreciated the realness of the conflict and the way the characters worked toward making themselves better – I want more of that in romance too. So, in the end, I’m going to give Ready for Wild a GREEN rating. Had there been more diversity, it would have been a blue rating for sure.
