It’s been a while since I’ve written! I hate admitting it, but I got in a bit over my head when I was trying to post three times a week, all while traveling a lot for work and making some exciting life changes. I won’t get into any of that here – I’m too excited to tell y’all the news! But I will say that I can’t guarantee any number of posts per week anymore. The blog is going to turn into an as-I-have-time adventure.
Because… are you ready for this?
SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL is getting published!
I tweeted about it this morning for the first time, after checking with my publisher that I’m able to announce it. Yes, the book that I mentioned needing to completely rewrite several posts ago is getting published! Here’s the story:
After writing the blog post where I mentioned the comments I got from a different publisher, I took querying SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL off the table. I figured it wouldn’t see the light of day as it was, if ever. But I was on Twitter a couple weeks later (I’m on Twitter a lot these days, if you’re looking for a more consistent presence from me) and saw that one of the small publishers I follow was having a pitch fest. So, in a split second of decision making, I condensed the completed novel that I’d basically given up on into less than 140 characters (even less, really, because I tagged the publisher and hashtagged the pitch fest at the end) and sent it off. I’d been entering Twitter pitch contests off and on at this point and had no success (yet). So I went on with my day.
But they liked it. And this pitch fest was different and amazing in that, if they liked it, they requested to see the entire manuscript. So I sent my full manuscript off for only the second time (I never heard back from the first), and then I waited. For weeks. When that happens, all you can assume is that they don’t like it. And, like I said, SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL is something I’ve had completed since 2012 (although it’s been through a number of edits since), so I didn’t have a lot of hope.
Long(er) story short? They offered me a contract, which I signed. I don’t have an exact pub date yet, but I have a season and a year, which is enough for me to be able to make this announcement.
SOMETHING BEAUTIFUL will be published in the Spring of 2017 from Pen Name Publishing.
I went indie with this one, and I’m SO glad I did. I’ve been welcomed with open arms into the PNP family, and I’m so excited to start this publishing journey. In the meantime, I’ll try to be better about blogging. I’m also going to get rid of my Brown-Eyed Twenty-Something Facebook page and create an author page instead, and then revamp this site to more accurately portray what’s happening in my life right now. I’m always doing something, you know?
If you follow me on social media, there will be more updates to come as I start building my shiny new author platform. I’m super excited about this, you guys! And, as a debut author, I’ll probably be writing a lot about the experience, too.
